Important warning about bank fraud and impersonation scams

Recently, the fraud of mimicking Bank/Financial Institutions has become more intricate on a big scale, taking many various forms. To strengthen vigilance and maintain the safety of our customers' assets and information, VIB would like to bring to your awareness the following new fraud tricks:
Fraudulent techniques in banking transactions
- High-tech criminals create fake websites and phony emails to offer illegal credit card services such as limit increases, cash withdrawals, card maturity, installment transfers, and more. They collect customer information and images such as citizen ID, identity photo, front and back of card, and OTP code to:
• Appropriate money through credit card transactions; or
• Appropriate money through credit score enhancement service with fake credit report "CICB - Creditinfo" and ask customers to transfer money to the fraudster's personal account.
VIB fully commits to having no relationship or cooperation with these organizations, and offering no limit increases over the phone or illegal services via calls from fake phone numbers or phony emails.
- Notify customers of receiving an unusual amount of money or an account with suspicious signs and require customer confirmation of transactions/password changes by entering an OTP code or accessing files or links containing malicious code sent along with the email to usurp the right to use electronic banking applications and perform transactions to appropriate money.
- Counterfeit mobile applications (VneID, Ministry of Public Security, General Department of Taxation, etc.) containing malicious code. If customers install it on their phones, their devices will be controlled and personal information will be appropriated.
- Impersonate agencies such as police, courts, hospitals, schools, etc., informing customers that they are involved in illegal/dangerous/emergency cases and requesting to transfer money to support emergency/treatment checks.
Preventive measures against fraud in banking transactions:
Please:
- DO NOT access strange applications or links when received via email, text messages, social networks or calls with requests for personal information and service access information.
- DO NOT provide personal information/card information/bank account information, OTP code to anyone. VIB never asks customers to provide OTP or login password.
- DO NOT engage in activities such as selling, renting, lending, or opening payment accounts, which can potentially be exploited for illegal transactions. These actions are considered illegal under the law.
- SHOULD block cards and current accounts (via MyVIB application or contact Hotline 1800 8180/ 1800 8195) when suspecting signs of fraud.
- SHOULD report to the authorities if you detect cases requiring money transfer, providing personal information, card/bank account information.
